INDOOR soccer, enchanting music and terrific table tennis dominated the Community Games scene on last weekend, where three new area's becoming the first county champions of 2013.

On Friday evening last in Annascaul, the u13 boys indoor soccer finals took place, in the first semi-final, Spa/Muckross defeated An Ghaeltacht 9-6 in what was a spellbinding game with goals galore. Scorers were Ryan Kelliher 6, Liam Spillane 2, James Lynch 1, Ruaidhri O Beaglaoich 1, Conn O Riagain 5.

In the second semi-final, Dingle defeated Anascaul/ Camp/Inch 5-3 with Dylan Geaney and Christopher Kane scoring two each in the first half and one by Sean Og Moran in the second half for Dingle. Sean Kennedy scored three brilliant goals from free kicks for Anascaul/Camp/Inch.

The 3rd/4th play-off saw Anascaul/Camp/Inch reign victorious over An Gaeltacht 6-3 with Killian Falvey 3, Sean Kennedy 2, and Jack Farrell 1 and Conn O Riagain, Gavin O Cinneide and Cathail O Muircheartaigh all scoring for An Gaeltacht.

The final was an absolute thriller, Spa/Muckross opened the scoring after 8 mins through Ryan Kelliher but Dingle equalised two minutes later through Christopher Kane. The second half saw three brilliant saves from Eoin Brosnan to keep Dingle in the game when a thunderous shot from distance from Lee Downey gave Spa Muckross the lead until i min to go when Dylan Geaney volleyed to the net to send the game to extra time. The momentum was now with Dingle and two wonder saves from David O'Mahony kept Spa Muckross alive but with tired legs could not hold off a determined Dingle team, and the West Kerry boys went on to win the game and the gold medals.

The group and solo music competition was held in Abbeydorney on Saturday night last.In the solo music category the winners were 1st Keith O'Connor, Abbeydorney on the accordian; 2nd Patrick Nolan, Ballyduff on the piano. 3rd Ryan O'Neill, Ballydonoghue on the accordion; 4th was Diane Meriakri, Rock St/Caherslee on the keyboard.

In the group music category 1st Listowel with Darragh Mackeesy, Edel Quinn, Maeve Trench, Mairead Brosnan and Aisling Keane, 2nd Lixnaw, 3rd Ballydonoghue, 4th Ballybunion.

The table tennis competition was held on Sunday last in Balloonagh school in Tralee. In the Girls final, Rock St/Caherslee defeated Knocknagoshel in the doubles to win gold 4 games to 3.

In the boys event there were six teams involved with Killarney South and St Brendans/ Oakpark both having victories over Blenerville, while Killarney South defeated St Brendans/ Oakpark to reach the final.

Rock St/Caherslee and Abbeydorney/Kilflynn both defeated Knocknagoshel with Rock St/Caherslee defeating Abbeydorney/Kilflynn to reach the final.

The 3rd/4th place play-off saw St Brendans/Oakpark defeat Abbeydorney/Kilflynn to win the bronze by four games to two in avery close encounter.

In the final Rock St/Caherslee won the gold medals by defeating Killarney South 5-1.

Closing dates to be adhered to this coming week are the boys under-10 indoor soccer on Thursday, January 31.

Events taking place next weekend are the girls u10 and u13 indoor soccer and the group and solo singing and best of luck to all competitors.

The Athletics Finals are now scheduled to take place on June 22 and 23.
