Six Kerry boxers win titles at Munster Boys and Youths Boxing Championships

Some 95 boxing champions were crowned at the recently concluded Munster Boys and Youths Boxing Championships at the Ballybunion Community Sport Centre.

Over 400 boxers matched skill, grit and heart during the five days to decide who would prevail as the champion in each weight division. And while a few of last year's champions held on to their titles, quite a large number of gold medals went to new aspirants in search of ring honours.

Six Kerry boxing clubs competed in their own turf for the first time in years, with six titles being won by Kerry fighters:

Thomas O'Sullivan (Cashen Vale) 75kg Youth 1 Champion

Ryan Downey (Cashen Vale) 31kg Boy 2 Champion

Jack O'Sullivan (Cashen Vale) 52 kg Boy 2 Champion

Niall O'Sullivan (Ballyduff) 57kg Youth 1 Champion

Michael Mullins (Sliabh Luachra 66 kg Boy 3 Champion

Cillian Spillane (Trojan) 50 kg Boy 3 Champion.

The next major test for Kerry's six Munster champions will be at the National Stadium for the Boy 4 and Youth 1-2 Championships on April 4, 5, 11 & 12.

The Boy 1, 2 and 3 Championships take place from Tuesday April 22 to Saturday, April 26.

All in Kerry boxing are very proud of our boxers' success so far, and trust their future efforts will be equally successful and rewarding.
