Road to Croker begins now for clubs

THE long road to a possible Croke Park club final appearance next Spring gets under way in earnest this weekend when there are 18 championship games down for decision in the various club championships.

Senior Club Championship: Two sides who have tasted success at intermediate level in recent years are in action this weekend when Finuge host Laune Rangers in a Round 1 game (winners play Rathmore) and Milltown/Castlemaine take on Kilcummin in Round 2. The remaining Round 1 games (Dr Crokes v Kerins O'Rahillys and St Michaels/Foilemeore v Legion) will be played on the weekend of April 27/28.

Intermediate Club Championship: Waterville, John Mitchels, Castlegregory and Currow are already through to the quarter finals of the Intermediate championship and the other four quarter finalists should be known after this weekend's action which sees high flying Skellig Rangers play Dromid Pearses, Spa play Emmets, Kenmare play St Marys and Ardfert host An Ghaeltacht.

Junior Club Championship: Kerry have had a great success rate in this competition in the All Ireland series and no doubt this will be on the minds of the sixteen clubs taking to the fields this weekend. Tarbert and St Pats will be many peoples favourites for the Junior title but County League standings can mean very little in the white heat of championship football.

Novice Club Championship: Templenoe and St Senans are already through to the quarter finals of the Novice Championship as are Moyvane who got a bye. Four of the remaining teams should be known this weekend and the remaining fixture between Renard and Lispole will be played on the weekend of 27/28.
