Packed racecard for this weekend
Dingle Races returns this weekend with racing commencing at 4.30pm on Friday followed by a packed race-card on Saturday and Sunday.
While the action on the track will be closely studied – it of course being Ireland's premier horse and pony meeting – there will be plenty to look at off the track also as ladies (and gents) vie for titles in the style stakes.
After the success of last year's event, this year is promised to be the biggest and best ladies day event to date. For the first time, the title of 'Best Dressed Gent' will be up for grabs, a welcome addition to proceedings. The 'Best Dressed Lady' competition this year boasts a prize-fund of €650 and is sponsored by Elaine Kennedy Photography, Brian de Staic, Strands of Dingle and Mad Hatters of Dingle. Meanwhile, the 'Best Dressed Mother and Daughter' will receive prizes to the tune of €25 (sponsored by Fitzgerald's Centra and Strand House). Plus, all participants will enjoy a complimentary drink at the Stand Bar at the racecourse.
Considering the style and fashion on show last year, and with a bit of a heatwave forecast, all the indications are good for a great weekend of racing, with a touch of style and glamour thrown in for good measure.
The first race starts at 2.30pm on Sunday. On Saturday the little ones can also look forward to a 'Family Day' and the race committee have pulled out all the stops to ensure there are plenty of fun activities to be had.
It's shaping up to be a great weekend and the race committee also divulged this week that a plaque to the late Stevie Kelliher, the Dingle Races stalwart who passed away earlier this year, will be unveiled at the Dingle Races stand during the meeting.
