The Ballymac Anton @Stud Quad Distance A5 Stakes took centre stage on Saturday’s card at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium, with the event down to the semi-final stage following second round heats of the highest quality which were run over 525 yards. The Stake steps up to 550 yards next weekend but even that shouldn’t trouble the obvious favourite for the event, Westwind Flame (Laughil Blake/ Westwind Jet), who lit up the Oakview circuit when posting 28.28 in the opening quarter-final.

Owned by Michael O’Rourke from Farranfore, it was no surprise to see the October ’20 go to traps on odds of 1/3 having posted 27.04 for 500 yards in the opening round. The winner extended his rich vein of form with a superb performance of front running. Quickly into stride, he ran his rivals ragged down the back straight with only Misty Melody laying down any sort of challenge to halfway. Westwind Flame extended his advantage with every stride off the closing bends and was full value for his six-length success. Michael Houlihan’s Misty was a clear second finishing a further six lengths clear of Smearla Sydney back in third.
