Kerry runners compete well at cross-country championship in Santry

There was a big turnout for the Woodie's DIY Cross-country Championships at Santry Demesne in Dublin last Sunday and the good weather made for great competition.

In the Junior Mens 6,000m race Brendan O'Connor (An Riocht) ran well to finish 13th. The Junior Ladies event, which was run over 4,000m, saw Brigid Dennehy (Iveragh) finish in 17th position.

In the Senior Ladies race of 8,000m Laura Crowe (An Riocht) finished in 14th place and Anne Marie Costello (Gneeveguilla) in 34th place.

Shona O'Brien from Spa Muckross is certainly a name to look out for after finishing sixth in the girls U14 race.

In the girls U18 event, Laura Hallissey (Kenmare AC) finished in 24th place, running a year out of age.

Elsewhere, last Saturday Niamh O'Sullivan (An Riocht) was third in her section of the home countries international in Cardiff.

The Munster Masters and Juvenile B cross-country will be held in Beaufort on December 1 and the Woodies DIY Novice and Juvenile Uneven Age cross-country Championships take place at WIT Campus in Waterford on December 15.
