Kerry bike racers to go as slow as possible to raise funds of Community Air Ambulance

Some of the fastest motorcycle racers to come out of Kerry will be trying to go as slow as possible on June 11.

Tarbert-based motorcycle racer Samantha Martin is organising a slow motorcycle race to raise funds for the Irish Community Air Ambulance.

The event will take place on June 11 in the car-park of the Lanterns Bar.

Riders will have to go as slow as possible and if they put their feet on the ground they will be disqualified.

Riders already entered include Supersport Pro racer Andrew Murphy. Other racers like Emmet O’Grady and Robert O’Connell will display their racing bikes to add to the atmosphere on the day.

“I am hoping to have over 100- bikes and I am hopeful many more of the local racers will enter, they are up for anything so I am sure they will be there,” she said.

“I want to raise enough funds to pay for one mission – it costs around €3,000 each time the air ambulance is called out.

"Entry fee is a tenner, but if you get eliminated you can buy back into the next round for a fiver. The buy back is a money-making racket, but it is all for a good cause.”

The event will be followed by a social gathering at The Lanterns where she hopes even more money will be raised with raffles and fundraising.
