The 123.ie National Masters Indoor Championships were held in Athlone on Sunday with the cream of Kerry’s older athletes out in force. St. Brendan's AC was well represented with six athletes competing. In the walks were Serena Griffin (W35), Artur Nowak (M50) and David Kissane (M65). All three won gold in their categories with Griffin getting a personal best and winning her first gold national medal.
David Kissane lowered the club record for the 3k walk to 20:23. In the Masters Woman O45 long jump Ursula Barrett jumped a massive 4:44m to win gold. Arthur Novak picked up his second medal of the day when he won bronze in the M50 high jump.
Competing for An Riocht were Ger Cremin, who won gold in the M40 60m hurdles, and Michael Lynch, who took silver in M35 60m sprint.
Tralee Harriers thrower Patsy O’Connor won gold in the M65 shot with a throw of 11.98m, a CPB for this event and age category and silver in WFD. There has not been a year when Patsy has not been in the medals, setting records as he goes. Keeping it in the family, his son Alan took silver in M35 shot, his first year competing as a master athlete.
Killarney Valley’s Alan Delaney won gold in M40 high jump and Kenmare’s Vincent White won two bronze medals in the M45 high jump and long jump.
