County juvenile handball finals provide plenty of thrills and drama

THE County Juvenile Finals, in Tralee last Sunday, provided spectators with great excitement as the players of the future vied to represent the green and gold. The most dramatic game of the day in the singles took place in the U-11 boys competition with Dylan Dunne-Moriarty (Ballymacelligott) playing his heart out before conceding to Liam Smith (Glenbeigh) 15-13, 15-14.

The U-13 doubles final between Tommy Quirke/ Jason Clifford ( Glenbeigh) and Conn Ó Riagáin/ Ruaidhrí Ó Beaglaoich( An Ghaeltacht) proved a fascinating affair, with the game ebbing and flowing between the sides, to bring it to a tie-breaker with the An Ghaeltacht duo prevailing 11-9 to take the title.

Many thanks to referees Brendan O'Connor, Tom Daly, Colm Ó Lúing and Christy Moriarty, to the parents and club mentors and most of all to the young players for a very enjoyable day.
