SATURDAY night’s programme at the Oakview venue featured the final of an A7/ A8 525 sweepstake and the winner’s purse of €700 was claimed by John and Sinéad O’Sullivan, of Listowel, who saw their bitch, Coill Bhui Noir, set herself up for victory by breaking smartly from trap 5 and then clearing the opening bend just ahead of Muingwee Dolly and Ballyfidora Sid on her inside.
nce in front off that opening bend, there was to be no catching her and she raced home three and a half lengths ahead of Muingwee Dolly in 29.09 (.20 fast), with a length and a half back to Misty Sapphire.
One of the semi-final winners, Teevee Zoey, which had beaten Coill Bhui Noir by two lengths, was an absentee and so was semi-final runner-up to Ballyfidora Sid, Dunasbuig Lucky.
A terrific crowd was in attendance, just as on Friday night, and backing up the A7/ A8 525 sweepstake final were the semi-finals of two Lee Strand-sponsored sweepstakes which will be brought to a conclusion this Saturday night.
The first of those two sweepstakes was over 325yds for S6/ S7 class and the semi-final winners were Lisahane Secreto (18.13) and Muingwee Kid (18.43), with the former likely to emerge victorious in Saturday’s final from trap 2.
The draw is (trap order): Ramona Bolt, Lisahane Secreto, Mystery Bolt (M), My Gold (M), Lixnaw Sailor (M), Muingwee Kid (W).
The other sweepstake was over 525yds for A6 class and very much the fastest semi-final winner was Devon Glory. This fellow clocked 28.78 in the first semi-final and that was quite a bit faster than the 29.52 recorded by Drombeg Ellie in the second semi-final, making him the likely winner of Saturday’s final.
The young owner of Drombeg Ellie, Joe Murphy, of Abbeyfeale, received his First Communion earlier in the day and this was a victory for him that he will always fondly remember.
The draw for Saturday’s final is (trap order): Seomra Coco, Steady Monarch, Drombeg Ellie (M), Headleys Sydney (W), Devon Glory (W), Post Blue (W).
The opening 325 for unraced greyhounds was won in an impressive 17.76 by Garrison Kazan and his owner, Richard Gentleman, of Kilmoyley, followed up by winning the eighth race, an A4 525, in 29.14 with Garrison Bejing.
Other winners were Call Me Quick, 28.95; Lisahane Secreto, 18.13; Flanagan Sky, 17.78; Willowdale Ghost, 29.47; Palatine Holly, 28.98. It was .10 trap for all 325 races and .20 fast for all 525 races.
