THERE was great excitement among the John Mitchels GAA club faithful over the weekend as the club hosted a huge family fun day at its new home in Ballyseedy.

It's the first time the club's multi million euro sports hall and grounds have been used to host such an event and hundreds of the club's legions of fans came out to enjoy the fun and games on Saturday.

Guest of honour was Armagh football star Oisin McConville who made the long trip from Northern Ireland to officially open the celebrations and meet the club's many young players and their families.

Thankfully, while the weather became a little inclement on Saturday, the evening the morning and afternoon provided some lovely spring sunshine which helped bring out the crowds.

The day included a whole host of fun activities for all the family ranging from football, as one would expect, to bouncy castles, treasure hunts, GAA skills games, face painting and all manner of races and games for kids and adults alike.

"There was lots of happy and colourful faces and we hope that everyone had a great day.

"A real plus was that the rain held off until later in the evening to make it a brilliant day for all," said John Mitchels PRO Peter Fortune.
