Co. League Div. 1 D. Crokes 5 16 Ballymacelligott 1-11 Early first half goals by Mark O’Shea and Jordan Kiely laid the foundations for our win over Ballymacelligott last Saturday evening. The first half remained competitive but a third goal just before half time from Mark O’Shea provided us with a cushion at the short whistle. The second saw two further goals, from O’Shea and the ageless John Payne, with us running out comfortable winners on the night.

Div. 3 Dr. Crokes B 1-15 Glenflesk 1-17 a great second half performance by the visitors just got them over the line in this entertaining contest. a game that went to the wire and a wonderful double save by the Glenflesk keeper in the final moments gave them the spoils.

It was a fantastic event for our young players to be involved with and they did their club, their families and most importantly themselves proud. It was a great bonding event for our players and something that we should certainly look at again in the future for our academy members.

County League Division 3 Round 7

Dr Crokes 1-15 Glenflesk 1-17

With 10 minutes gone in the second half, it looked as if Glenflesk’s perfect start to Division 3 in the County League was coming to an end. They had just gone 7 points behind to a determined Dr Crokes team, who themselves needed a win to help their fight against relegation. What followed was an immense show of character and skill, with crucial contributions from the bench helping to secure the victory.

It was the home side who got off to the better start, scoring the first 2 points of the day. Scores from Danny Lucey and Jeff O Donoghue brought Glenflesk level. With Crokes high work rate unsettling Glenflesk, they grabbed the opening goal of the game, when Paul Clarke got his fist to a high ball and palmed it to the net. With shots dropping short, and wide’s building up, Glenflesk were lucky to go in at half time only 4 points down. The early stages of the second half started along similar lines. Crokes getting the first 3 scores of the half. Glenflesk needed a score to lift them. It was delivered by Emmet Finnan. He got on the end of a move involving Jeff O Donoghue and Michael O Shea to finish low to the net. Darragh Roche and Tommy Bowler then showed their class after being brought on at half time. Both kicked over a string of magnificent long range points to take Glenflesk from 7 points down to 2 up. Brendan Falvey pointed to bring Crokes within 1 before Roche again judged the wind perfectly to increase the lead again. With time running out, Crokes launched another high ball in towards the Glenflesk goal. Clarke landed with the ball, but his close range shot was brilliantly saved by Mark Kelleher. Kelleher also stopped the rebound, and was fouled as Crokes desperately tried to push him over the line. Roche fired over another super score as time expired, to keep Glenflesk well on track for promotion.

Team.1. Mark Kelleher, 2. Emmet Finnan (1-0), 3. Brian O Donoghue, 4. Peter Cronin 5. Kieran A O Donoghue, 6. Chris O Donoghue (0-1), 7. Jonathan Bowler, 8. Killian O Sullivan, 9. Daniel O Brien, 10. SENIOR MENS UPDATE: Our Senior men continued their recent unbeaten run in the County Senior League Division 1 when they fought out a hard earned draw over a defensively obdurate Dingle side in Direen. Full time.. Fossa 0-14 Killarney Legion 0-9.

JUVENILE BOYS UPDATE: The initial phase of the U11 Go Games came to a close this week when we welcomed Churchill to Direen . The usual determination and skills were on show and special thanks to Ryan Twomey and John Keane who took the whistle for the two games .There were mixed fortunes for our U13 boys teams on Sunday night. Our Green Team had a real ding dong struggle with Austin Stacks with the lead exchanging hands regularly throughout the game. With the scores level at 1-5 a piece at half time the Rockies had marginally the better of the second half to win by 2 points, 2-10 to 2-8.The White team picked up from where they left off in phase 1 when they outscored a gallant St Pats Team.

LADIES UPDATE: The Senior Ladies were in Milltown Sunday morning where they faced MKL Gaels in the latest round of the Donal Curtin Cup.With the aid of a stiff breeze in the first half they led 0-8 to 1-2 at half time despite the disadvantage of being a player down for 10 minutes due to a sin binning. This was thanks to the accuracy of Ciara Randles, Ann Marie O Sullivan, Andrea Murphy and Chloe Hue. Playing against the elements in the second half every score was precious, none more than an Aine Devlin goal while Ciara Randles and Chloe Hue added to their totals. MKL battled hard to close the gap but the defensive team work of the Legion Ladies won out in the end. Full Time Killarney Legion 1-13 MKL Gaels 2-8.

U12 GIRLS: Round 1 Div4 U-12 Girls County league commenced last Wednesday 11th May with an away trip to Na Gael. It was a dry evening, ideal conditions with both sets of players playing some lovely football. We took an early lead which we never really relinquished but credit to Na Gael they stay with us the whole way until last quarter whereby we just pulled away a small bit. We had seven different scorers on the night which was fantastic to see and we came away with the points on a scoreline of Spa 3-10 Na Gael 2-06.

Round 2 was played out Wednesday night 18th May in Spa vs Duagh in totally contrasting conditions. Whilst the pitch itself was in immaculate condition, thundery rain for the best part of the afternoon meant both teams had to deal with a fast and slippery surface. Both teams adapted well to conditions and there was only a =93kick of the ball=94 in it at half time, Spa leading on a Scoreline of 1-02 to 0-02. A favourable breeze in the second half enabled our girls to get on top who outscored our opponents 1-07 to 0-05 to finish out winners on the night Spa 2-09 Duagh 0-07.

Next fixture next Wednesday 25th May away to John Mitchels.

U15 CO LEAGUE DIVISION 2 SHIELD FINAL: Our U15’s made the trip to Keel for the Division 2 Shield final on a wet and windy Wednesday evening.
