Mass for Holy Souls

There will be mass for the Holy Souls in Our Lady of Lourdes Church Scartaglen on this Wednesday night November 24 at 7pm. On this Friday night November 26 there will be mass in Castleisland Parish Church for all those who died in the parish from November 1 2020 to October 31 2021.

U15 Football

Congrats to the Castleisland District U15 team which won the County Football Championship Shield Final when defeating St. Brendan’s 2-16 to 2-8 at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney on Sunday November 14. Congrats in particular to the 4 Scartaglen boys on the team: Cillian Reidy, Luke McShane, Jack O Donoghue and Michael Horan who did their parish and club proud on the day with Cillian captaining the team. Well done lads. Mid Kerry won the Cup Final when defeating Tralee District 5-4 to 0-12 and the victorious captain there was Eoin O Connell, whose father Seamus comes from Knockeenahone, so a great day for Scartaglen.

Greyhound Racing

There were two Scartaglen winners at The Kingdom Greyhound Stadium Tralee on Tuesday night November 16th at the SIS Meeting. “Scart Bullet” won for Brendan O Mahony of Knockeenahone in a time of 28.93 and “Pallatine Syd” triumphed in an impressive 28.48 for Stuart Welford of Mount and trainer John P O Sullivan of Knockrour.

Christmas post box

We had a very special delivery at the clubhouse over the weekend as Santa’s little helpers delivered our Christmas post box to the club. It is located near the road entrance. Everyone can post their Santa letters here for express delivery straight to the North Pole!

The juvenile coaches can send you one of our personalized Santa Letters or they will be available to collect from the clubhouse reception - or you can also create your own for Mr Claus. When posting your letter why not take a photo and send to your coach or to our juvenile PRO Anne on 0857780883 or send them to us through Facebook and we will add them to our 2021 Christmas photo album! Our thanks to Mike Brosnan, Erin Holland, Pa Murphy, Paul Casey and Conor Gleeson for helping with the delivery and the decorating. The post box will be open for the next few weeks before Santa and his helpers will be calling to collect them all in time for Christmas.

Handball club tournament

Spa Killarney Handball club will be holding a tournament in the Sports Hall next Monday November 29th at 7pm. The tournament is for beginner and advanced players and spectators welcome to come along and watch.

Coom An Easboig Car Park

It is one of the highest accessible car parks in Southern Ireland. It is also one of the discovery points along the Wild Atlantic Way. The views from there are spectacular. If you look north you can see Portmagee, Valentia, The Dingle Peninsula and Loop Head, Co. Clare. Looking south one can see Ballinskelligs , Waterville, Kenmare and point of the Beara Peninsula. Like all high places the car park can be extremely windy during winter.

The death has taken place of Corrie Osborne, Granafulla on Friday 19th November. His remains were removed from Fitzgerald’s Funeral Home, Waterville, on Monday (22 November) at 11:00 a.m., for private cremation at The Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork.

Corrie is survived by his wife Jo; sons Steven, Raymond, Colin, Paul, John and Ian; daughters Clare, Julie, Tanya and Michelle; his grandchildren and great-granddaughter; his brothers David and Michael; sisters Pat and Hazel; his neighbours and friends to whom we offer our sincere sympathy. Drivers wanted

Waterville Meals on Wheels service requires some volunteer drivers for the delivery of meals. Delivery days are currently Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday at 12noon from Waterville Community Centre.
