Glenflesk CCÉ branch have exciting new plans for the coming year! The first initiative kicked off Tuesday night last- group music lessons.
This is open to musicians of all levels. Children and young adults playing together will be a fun, social event and will increase everyone’s musical Repetoire! The Comhaltas branch will be providing lots of opportunities for these groups to play at concerts, sessions etc.
We welcome a Limerick primary and music teacher to the branch to teach these music classes. Cathal McHugh is an accomplished musician and is so excited to get started teaching these group lessons. These lessons take place every Tuesday night and musicians from Glenflesk and all surrounding areas are welcome! Congratulations to St. Brendans College players from Glenflesk on reaching the semi final of the Corn Uí Mhuirí last Saturday defeating Coláiste na Sceilge. Sem players: Killian O’Sullivan, Luke Crowley, Cian Lynch, John Kelliher, Jack O’Donoghue and Micheal Mullane.

Ireland Lights Up
‘‘Ireland Lights Up’’ walking campaign returns in partnership with the GAA and Operation Transformation to ensure that ‘Ireland Lights Up’ by turning on their floodlights. Week 1 of Glenflesk GAA’s ‘Ireland Lights Up’; takes place tomorrow night Thursday 13th January in Glenflesk GAA between 6.00pm and 8.00pm. This is a great opportunity to enjoy a healthy walk in the safe, bright environs of our GAA Club. We are delighted to be one of the participating clubs and extend an invite to everyone in the parish and beyond, young and old, to join us on the night. Please note that due to the current restrictions in respect Covid-19 physical distance should be maintained throughout the walk.
Last Man Standing
The Keel GAA Last Man Standing competition will now begin on the weekend of January 21st. Please note change in deadline. We still have spaces available if anyone would like to take part for €10. A reminder that the lights will be on from 7-9pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for walkers/runners to get their steps and exercise done for the day. We will post updates across our social media with any changes to this schedule.
Every Step Counts Challenge
Keel GAA will be taking part in the Irish Life Every Step Counts Challenge which begins this Wednesday the 19th of January. This is part of our Healthy Club Initiative, and we hope you will all get involved. Over 25 people have signed up so far. Thank you! The club will need to walk or run 4,000km to be entered into the Munster draw for a chance to win a €2,500, €1,500 or €1,000 O’ Neills voucher. Download the My Life by Irish Life App onto your phone and select the challenge for Munster, choose Keel GAA as your club. We will post tips and tricks on our social media. ‘Ireland Lights Up’Kilcummin GAA club will open their walking track to the general public every Wednesday night from 7-9pm until March 2nd in conjunction with ‘Ireland Lights Up’and ‘Operation Transformation’. Why not avail of the opportunity to exercise in a traffic- free environment for the next six weeks and bring the family.

Nora Martin (née Harrington) of Southampton, England and Kenmare, passed away at the great age of 103 on Monday 20th December 2021. Nora was born in Cummeen, Kilgarvan and also went to school in Kilgarvan. Her family have a summer home in Ardtully, Kilgarvan. For many years of their Summer holiday activities included walking and fishing which they had a great interest in in particular during the salmon fishing season. Nora’s Requiem Mass was held on Tuesday 18th January 2022 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Hampshire.
To her children Richard, Brenda, Graham, and extended family we express our deepest sympathy.
John Sean O’Sullivan, Upper Ballycasheen, Killarney, and late of Crossmount, Kilgarvan, passed away on the Friday the 24th of December 2021. John is the brother of Patie Sean O’Sullivan, Crossmount, Kilgarvan. John was a great community man moreover with his local GAA club, SPA, and he helped out from time to time with Kilgarvan GAA Club organising fundraising events such as 31 card drive. John’s Requiem Mass was held in St Mary’s Cathedral, on Wednesday 29th December 2021 with burial afterwards in Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery. To his wife Maureen, children Maria, Gerald, Angela, Patrick, brothers Patrick (Patie), Mick, sisters Mary, Helen, Theresa, Joan and extended family we express our deepest sympathy.
Maurice O’Sullivan, Glenview Court, Blessington, Co. Wicklow and late of Slaheny, Kilgarvan, passed away on Friday 7th January 2022. Maurice is the brother of Sean O’Sullivan, Lounihan, Kilgarvan. He was pre-deceased by son Noel and daughter Margaret. Funeral Mass for Maurice O’Sullivan was held on Monday the 10th of February 2022, at 11:00am, in the Church of Our Lady, Blessington, with burial afterwards in Burgage Cemetery. To his wife Helen, brother Sean, children David, Mary, Catherine, Paul and extended family we express our deepest sympathy.
Josephine Curran (née McCoy) of Sandymount, Dublin, passed away on Sunday the 9th January 2022. Josephine is the sister of Gerard (Jer) Matt Twomey, Morleys Bridge, Kilgarvan. Josephine(Joe) and her family holidayed in the locality. Josephine’s Funeral Mass was held on Friday the 14th January 2022 at 11:00 am at the Star of the Sea Church, Sandymount, followed by cremation at Mount Jerome, Harold’s Cross. To her husband Bob, children Ann and Louise, brother Gerard and extended family we express our deepest sympathy.
Public Health Guidelines for Churches: A face mask or covering must be worn by all those aged 9 or over visiting our church. Given the spread of the Omicron variant there is no exception to this guidance. People who may not be able to wear a face mask/covering for whatever reason can participate in the Mass online.
Offertory Collection: Boxes at entrance door. We appreciate your donations/envelopes which are necessary for the upkeep of our Parish. Eucharistic Adoration will resume on Wednesday 19th January commencing at 6:15pm, rosary at 7:00pm followed by mass at 7:30pm. Winter ready for Farms: Here are a few tips to be winter ready for Farms. Ensure farm is well lit, Get trained on how to use equipment correctly , Always carry a mobile phone, Plan your work, Supervise kids on farms, Look after your wellbeing, Ensure vehicles are serviced. Be and stay safe.
Couch to 5k will be on every Tuesday and Thursday in the Kilgarvan GAA pitch from 7:00pm. Registration from 6:30pm.
