Tom Kelly 8K

The inaugural Tom Kelly 8K road race took place on Sunday 16th January around the roads of Ardfert. The race was hosted by St. Brendan’s AC and they did an excellent job in organising this very well run race. The weather really cooperated as well and conditions were ideal for the 170 athletes who took part.

Denis Hegarty of Watergrasshill AC took top honours in a blistering time of 25.55, followed home by Derek Griffin, and Tony Harty of Killarney Valley AC rounded off the podium positions.

In the ladies race Ciara Tierney took top spot with Sarah Leahy and Rachel Leane finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Representing Star of the Laune we had Stephen Griffin, Anna Foley, Patricia Corbett & Siobhan Falvey.

This race is a great addition to the running calendar and it’s also great to support races which are organised by our fellow running clubs.

Congratulations to Louise Riordan and Ana Prieto who took part in the Santa Pola half marathon in Spain last Sunday.

Covid restrictions lifting

Great news that almost all Covid restrictions have eased and we can look forward to life returning to some sort of normality.

Please support local businesses as they re-open and also please respect that there are still many vulnerable people in our community and remember that vulnerabilities can be invisible so give people whatever space and support they need as we move forward together.
