Our interest in this years Limerick county football championship came to an end on Sunday last when we lost out to a well prepared Newcastlewest side. The game played before a large attendance in sun drenched Dromcollogher saw the town side emerge winners by 2-14 to 3-6 in a high scoring encounter.
Mountcollins made a strong start to the game and were 1-2 to no score in the first five minutes of the game. However they failed to score again until well into the second half as the winners les at half time by 10pts to 1-2 at the half time break.
An early second half goal for the town side dashed any hopes of an upset. The local side tried hard right to the finish and reduced the deficit to six points. Scores came from James Brouder 2-5, Timothy Walsh, 1 goal, Bernard McCarthy 1pt, Mountcollins now play Croom to decide the county representative in the Munster Club Championship as the two finalists are ineligible for the competition. The Mountcolins line out was Batt Dillane, Donagh Walsh, Sean Lyon(capt), Timmy Finnegan, Timothy Walsh, Maurice O Connor, Jeremiah Moroney, Tom MCCarthy, John O Connell, Bernard McCarthy, Mike McCarthy, Timmy Begley, James Brouder, Cian Sullivan, Batt Curtin. Subs, Paul Collins, Evan Lacy, Koery Keogh, Enda McBrien, Anthony Hartnett, Micheal Collins, Conor Moroney, Michael Lenihan, John Lenihan, Mikey O Mahony, Daniel Brosnan, Sean Lane.
