Site Specific Theatre Project

Interested in the Theatre/ the Arts? Mick Mulcahy will facilitate the community in creating its very own site specific/promenade theatre/heritage trail. The process will begin in September, but the initial conversation will happen at the West End hall,Castlegregory, Thursday May 26th at 8pm. Everyone from Camp to Brandon interested in the performing Arts are welcome, would-be writers, actors, musicians, research(very important)Techies etc please come along to this first meeting of what will be an exciting community adventure in 2022/23 Michael Hilliard Mulcahy has over 30 years experience in Theatre, both as an actor and playwright. The Arts Council of Ireland have kindly supported him to work with his Community. He is very much looking forward to doing so. In Honour of Mary McCarthy: Tidy Towns planted a tree in honour of Mary McCarthy in the Nature Park, Castlegregory on Tuesday at 7pm. The event was very well attended and a plaque was presented to her daughter, Kate.

Weekly evening Tidy Towns work

We are going out again from Tuesdays at 7 pm to 8:15 pm to weed, cut hedges, repair and generally improve our village. All are welcome. Meeting at the playground. Please bring your own equipment: gloves, secateurs, brushes, brush pans, buckets, shovels, trowels, safety vests, etc. Rubbish bags will be supplied. If you don’t have equipment please let us know and we will ask some of our regular volunteers if they can bring spares. We will have some extra safety vests and gloves but these are in short supply. For now we will go out every Tuesday evening, and Thursday evenings where applicable. Please watch notifications on our Facebook page or contact the office for more information.

St Brendans AC

St Brendan’s AC are delighted to announce that the club finished 3rd in the best overall points at the recent county juvenile championships. The committee thanks all the club community who made this possible, especially the athletes who have worked so hard over the winter and spring in a variety of disciplines.

Schools Sports: The primary schools sports for the St Brendan’s AC area will be held this Wednesday evening (May 18th) at Walnut Grove Field in Station Road, Ardfert at 6pm. The details have been sent to all the schools.See social media for other information.

GAA action

It was a good week for the GAA in Duagh with Cormac Dillon captaining the Kerry minors to a win over Cork in Tralee. Cormac who is son of Thomas and Yvonne Dillon of Trieneragh scored 1-9 of the Kerry total of 1-16. The Duagh senior team was defeated by Keel in the county league on Sunday last. Fixture Duagh V Ardfert Sun May 22nd @ 2pm in county league in Duagh.

The annual cemetery mass in St. Michael’s cemetery Listowel will be on Tuesday June 21st at 8pm

The annual Mass in St. John Paul cemetery in Listowel will be on Wednesday June 22nd at 8pm.The annual mass in our own Finuge cemetery will be on Thursday June 23rd at 8pm.

Local Greenway opening

The Abbeyfeale to Listowel greenway is now expected to be fully completed and open to the public by September of this year.

Lixnaw Community Games go ahead Friday the 27th of May, in Lixnaw. The deadline for registering is 6pm on Wednesday 25th of May - so don’t delay!

Kilflynn Nature Garden

As part of Biodiversity Week there will be a walk around Kilflynn Nature Garden on Wednesday 18th May at 7pm. looking at the variety of wild flowers and plants growing there. The walk will be led by local Herbalist, Christine Best, and will be free of charge although any donations will go towards the development of the garden. Scor na Páistí

Crotta GAA club are seeking primary school going boys and girls from our community to represent Crotta Hurling Club as part of Scor na Páistí. Comedy Night

The hilarious comedy Further Ted stars comes to Kilflynn on Saturday night 9th July. Further Ted, features two of the Father Ted’s series most popular cameo’s ‘Father Damo’ (Joe Rooney) and the country singer ‘Eoin McLove” (Patrick McDonnell).

Coming to the Venue in Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn on Saturday night 9th July at 8.30p.m, the show includes both Joe and Patrick’s acclaimed solo stand up acts, plus an array of characters that promises to make this show like no other. The Crotta hurling club weekly lotto draw was held on Monday 16th May at Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn.

The Four numbers drawn out of the drum by the independent observer: Graham Harris, Clounsillagh, Lixnaw were 7,13, 24 and 32. There was no winner of the 8,700 Jackpot. Congratulations to the following who won €35 in the lucky dip draw:

The next darts tournament will take place on Saturday night 21st May in Parker’s at 9.30p.m. All names in for 9.15p.m Sharp. The winners of the weekly darts will receive a voucher each for Brendan Mahony’s butcher shop, Listowel.

First Holy Communion

Congratulations to the boys and girls who received their First Holy Communion over these two past weekends. The children in Kilflynn had their First Communion Mass a week ago on Saturday 7th, while the children from Abbeydorney and Killahan had their First Communion Mass on Saturday 14th. I am sure all parishioners will join with me in expressing the hope that the parents will ensure that they will bring their children, as often as possible, to be part of the Parish Community that comes together each weekend in our two churches. Sincere thanks to those, who gave of their time to do a big clean-up in preparation for the First Communion Masses. (Fr.) Denis O’Mahony
