Christmas Tree in Playground: Some of you may have already noticed the new Norway Spruce planted in the corner just above the playground. Sadly the previous tree died through lack of water in the very dry period we had earlier in the year. We have now replaced it with a hardier tree and placed it in a more sheltered spot. If anyone could support with watering we would be very grateful. The tree needs to be watered daily over the summer months for it to take. Please contact the office if you can help

Duagh/Lyre Community Games

Tag Rugby – Last Saturday at MTU Tralee the County Community Games competition was held in a fabulous dry day. Duagh/Lyre Community Games had three teams tak u ng part. Huge congratulations to our u11 Tag team who won County gold. Two teams were entered in the competition so it was a straight final against Caherciveen. The game got underway and we didn’t get off to the best of starts going 2-0 then 3-1 down at half time. Caherciveen got off to the better start in the second half going up 5-2, but this young team playing their first ever tag game dug deep and suddenly it all clicked into place with them pulling off some great tries levelling it to 6-6 at full time. This put the game into extra time. In extra time the excitement continued going down 7-6, levelling it 7-7 and in the dying moments of the game a mistake from Caherciveen saw a Duagh/Lyre tip off and a great pass out the wing to Adam Shanahan saw him run into the corner to score the winning try and the whistle being blown. Absolutely heart stopping stuff and a fantastic game by our participants showing their sheer determination on the day. The team have now qualified for Munster finals in September. Team: Anna Troude (Capt), Aoife Ryan, Adam Shanahan, Eamon Dennehy, Jack Cronin, Caoilinn Harte, Holly Carmody, Odhran O’Regan, Liam Fitzgerald, Jermiah Buckley, Gearoid Brosnan and Fionn Buckley. Congratulations to Duagh/Lyre u14 tag team on winning Silver medals today at the County competition. Duagh/Lyre won the semi final v Caherciveen 11-6.

In the final Duagh/Lyre lost out to Beaufort 16-8. Well done to all participants they gave a great display in both games and worked well as a team. Team: Donagh Buckley, Cillian Kirby, Tomás Kelly, Gavin O’Brien, Cody Collins, Fionn Doorley, Catherine Buckley, Asia Fitzgerald, Fiona O’Brien, Emily Rose Ashley and Charlotte Rydziova. Thanks to Eileen and Siobhan for the photos. Good luck to Beaufort in the Munster finals.

U16 Tag Rugby: This fantastic bunch of participants who would do anything Community Games turned up like troopers today most after finishing their junior cert and the celebratory disco last night. In their semi final game v Beaufort they put on a great display and lost out by a small margin to make it to the final, the score 11 - 13. In the 3rd and 4th place playoff they played Boherbue/Cloghers/Manor and a superb team effort , with one of the team making their way back from an athletic competition just to play their part. They won 16-8. Team: Eimear Buckley (cpt), Luke Sheridan, Jack Collins, Denis Gould, Ronan Sheridan, Angharad Cudlipp, Cillian McMahon, Dylan Stack, Ryan Stack, Oisín O’Regan, Aoibhínn Harte and we wish Daibheád O’Regan a speedy recovery who unfortunately couldn’t make the game. Thanks to coaches: Derry Buckley and Jason Harte who were with all three teams during the day. Thanks to all the parents/guardians for their continued support. Thanks to Kerry Community Games for hosting a great competition which was coordinated by Nelius Collins and good luck to Spa/Fenit/Barrow in the Munster finals.

Cycling on grass – Huge congratulations to our four cyclists this evening at the County competition last Friday night in MTU Tralee. Our cyclists gave it everything tonight and the training in Duagh Gaa pitch with John Bunyan and our chief of operations Andy Keane paid off. In the u12 boys Eamon Dennehy won gold, this was Eamon’s first time taking part in this event, he’s a determined young lad who never is without his bike. Eamon has qualified for his first National finals.

In the u12 girls Kate Sheridan no stranger to this event, having won bronze at National finals last year. Kate stayed with her competitor in the first lap and then pulled away to come away with a great win and the gold medal. A determined lady who has qualified for her third National finals.

In the u14 girls Fiona O’Brien first time competitor at this event done herself proud cycling home in the gold medal position. Fiona another determined young lady and an avid cyclist, now secured a place in her first National finals. Our final cyclists this evening was Jack Dennehy, Jack got off to a great start but a small bit of misfortune with the gears dropping changed his position but he ended up with a fabulous bronze medal in his first County competition. Duagh/Lyre now have three cyclists qualified for National finals in September, Eamon, Kate and Fiona. We wish them all the best of luck going forward with the preparations. We are so proud of all our participants. Thanks to County Community Games for hosting the event. Thanks to our volunteers on the night, John and Neilus. Thanks to our participants, parents and supporters on the night. Thanks to Mike Buckley and Duagh Gaa for the use of the pitch.
