Lotto draw

The results of the weekly Ballyduff GAA Club, Lady’s Walk Hurling Club and the Ballyduff Community Games Committee Lotto Draw for Tuesday August 2nd are as follows: The numbers drawn were 3, 21 and 24 and the Bonus number was 6. There was no winner of the €15,500 Jackpot or the €400 prize for Match Three. The €20 consolation prize winners were Stephen Carrig, Lacca; Linda Friel, Benmore Drive; Johnny Kennelly, Knopogue. The Lotto Draw takes place on each Tuesday night at the GAA Clubrooms. Tickets cost €2.50 each and are available at the local shops and businesses and from members of the promoting Clubs. Remember “If you are not in you can’t win” You may also play the Lotto online at www.ballyduffgaa.com.

A Better Ballyduff

Ballyduff Walking Festival will take place over this weekend August 12th, 13th and 14th. The weekend gets underway on Friday March 12th with the Cashen 10k. Registration takes place at the Ballyduff Community Centre at 6.00pm with a fee of €10. The 10k run commences at 7.00pm sharp and proceeds from the run will go to the upkeep of the new defibrillator that is located at Ballyduff Pharmacy in the Village.

Saturday August 13th Walk A, 20k + walk, Leaving the Community Centre at 10.00am sharp until 4.00pm. (Please bring packed lunch). Taking in views of Kilmore, the beautiful Cashen, Ballybunion and North Kerry’s stunning Rattoo Round Tower.

Sunday August 14th Walk B, Approx. 5k. Leaving the Community Centre at 1.00pm, walk along our Ballyhorgan Loop with historic talks in the Village at different sites, suitable for young adults and dogs on leads. No need to book, just donate on the day. Refreshments in the Community Centre afterwards. All monies raised will go to “Comfort for Chemo Kerry”. St. Brendans A.C.

This Saturday brings a close to the track and field championship season. The Athletics Ireland national masters championships will be staged in Tullamore and St Brendan’s AC will have athletes involved in sprints, throws, jumps and in walks where five athletes will contest for honours. Club masters from O35 to O65 will be involved.

BALLYHEIGUE

GAA Lotto

Ballyheigue GAA lotto draw was held at the GAA Clubroom last Tuesday the 2nd of August. The winning numbers were 10, 18, 19, 28. There was no winner of the jackpot. The winning tickets for the €25 prize drawn were Ollie Murphy and Rosaleen Godley. The third ticket was Ray Stack and is entered into the special Christmas bonus draw. The jackpot will be €5,000 next week. Ballyheigue GAA lotto is now available online on play.clubforce.com. The online system will give the subscriber a number of play options. Minor Hurling Result

Well done to the Ballyheigue minor team on their victory over Rathmore in the Minor Shield competition. The game was played on the 2nd of August at the Kerry Centre of Excellence, Currans. The final score was Ballyheigue 5. 19 Rathmore 4. 9

Intermediate Hurling

Ballyheigue are due to play Abbeydorney in the opening round of the North Kerry Intermediate Championship (Tom and Kit Browne Cup) at Tom Healy Park on the 19th if August.

Jubilee Celebrations for Ballyheigue GAA

The Ballyheigue teams of 1996 and 1997 were honoured at a very enjoyable function at the White Sands on Saturday last to mark their County Senior Hurling Championship wins 25 and 26 years ago. Those present remembered deceased members of the group including Ted Murnane, Patrick O’Mahony and Patrick Corridon and their contribution to the wins and to the Club. The team and management were also presented to the crowd at half time during last Sunday’s County Hurling final at Austin Stack Park.

Memorial Mass

Memorial mass for Kathy Mai Rossiter of Colchester, Essex, formerly Leen of Banna East will be held at St. Brendan’s Church, Ardfert on Saturday the 13th of August at 12noon.

Wedding Bells

Congratulations to Elaine Lawlor Ballinclemissig on her recent marriage to Alan Quirke and also to Gary Hussey of Marian Park on his marriage to Noémi Farkas. We wish both newly wed couples the very best in their future lives.

Thank you to all the kids and parents who facilitated the earlier start to the Academy this week so the pitch could be prepared for the senior men’s game against Waterville.

We had a great morning of silly games, skills drills and practice football games. It’s a delight to see the improvements week on week in our up-and-coming Ballymac superstars.

Lotto

Oonagh O’Rahilly conducted the lotto draw on Monday 1st August. The Fitzmaurice Brothers, all the way from Chicago, proudly wearing their Ballymac Jerseys, drew the lucky numbers Sean Hennessy was on camera. The numbers drawn were:19, 14, 21, and 30. There was no winner of the Jackpot of €2750.00

GAA Action

Championship season commences. The Junior Premiere competition kicks off with Brosna v Ballyduff in Listowel on Wednesday night at 7.30pm. It’s great to have our teaching fraternity of Ger, Eamon and Amen back in the trenches with us. Never have such tans been seen on a Brosna pitch. Let’s hear it for Style and Substance!

Mary Ann Downes celebrated a landmark birthday at the weekend. Surrounded by family, friends and all her wonderful neighbours, Mary Ann and her daughter Sarah threw a party of unparalleled hospitality. Well, no half-measures in that house - it’s the Downes signature. Happy Birthday, Mary Ann.

Welcome back Summer. Hope everyone is enjoying the heatwave. Don’t forget to leave a shallow wide dish of fresh water on a wall somewhere for small birds to get their daily drink or bath. They’ll thank you for it.

Hope you’re able to get out to the cinema to see Joyride. I haven’t seen it yet but am told Brosna looks well. Apparently, our parish scene culminates with a view of a giant Baby. No one local, I’m sure!

Camp Youth Club

Camp Youth Club hope to reopen in the autumn on Friday nights at the Community Centre. If your secondary school child is interested in joining Camp Youth Club please text parent/guardian name and number and the child’s name to Sabrena - 089 2026321.We need volunteers to assist in the running of the club nights. Training will be provided by the KDYS.

Community Council

Gene Finn Chairman Camp Community Council presented a cheque for E1,200 to Dave Fitzell, Kerry branch of the Irish Cross Associationfor the Ukranian Appeal, proceeds of the staging of a play in Camp Community Hall. Thanks to all who supported.

Greyhound Bar KO Cup Semi Final Wednesday Night. Camp Utd 4 Listowel Celtic A 3. Well done to all the boys and management. 3 all after normal time and a last minute extra time goal saw us through to the Greyhound Bar Cup Final. Delighted for all the boys. Goalscorers Fintan Herlihy, Andrew Finn, James Scanlon, James Crean. Eamonn Hickson home from Canada togged out too, another star player with Camp United. Welcome home Eamonn. Congratulations all, Good luck in the final.Congratulations to Thomas Ashe winner of €254.00 in the Half The Bucket Draw at Ashes Bar on Friday night.

Obituary

John Moynihan (Clonakilty, formerly of Deelis, Camp passed to his eternal reward on July 30th 2022 in the wonderful care of the staff at Bushmount Nursing Home, Clonakilty. John (‘Galvez’ Western Road), beloved husband of the late Sheila (nee Moloney), brother of the late Michael, Paddy and Tom. Sadly missed by his brothers Jim, Brendan and Joe, sisters in law Sheila (Moynihan), Anne (Sexton), Kay (Kitty Feeney), nephews, nieces, Michael Dorgan, relatives, neighbours and friends. Requiem Mass on Tuesday, August 2nd 2022, at 2.30pm in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Clonakilty. This was livestreamed via www.clonakiltyparish.ie/live. John was laid to rest in St Mary’s Cemetery, Clonakilty. Rest In Peace.

Patricia Lenihan (nee Nolan) of Ardrinane, Annascaul, Co. Kerry and formerly of Glenbrien, Co. Wexford died peacefully on 2nd August. Beloved wife of Denis (Dingo) dear mother of Sean, Sinead and Eamon. Sadly missed by her loving family, grandchildren Jackson, Evan, Kate and Declan, brothers Martin, Bernard and Eamon, sisters Mary, Monica and Elizabeth, nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends.

As a mark of respect to Patricia and her family Annascaul GAA club formed a guard of honour outside the Church of the Sacred Heart Annascaul on Saturday morning. Patricia has been a great supporter of the Club over the years, with her husband Dingo and sons Sean and Eamon all lining out for Annascaul. Rest In Peace.
