Margaret retires

A note from retired Garda Nicholas Leonard Ballaugh with the news that ‘After almost 30 years’ sterling and dedicated service, Margaret McAuliffe-Clarke retired recently from her post as Garda Staff member at Abbeyfeale Garda Station. Always helpful and good-natured, Margaret will be greatly missed by her Garda and Staff colleagues, and by the wider Abbeyfeale public amongst whom she had made many good friends and was highly respected. We thank Margaret for her service to our community and for her kind friendship and we wish her and her husband, Barry, every blessing and a long, happy, healthy and well-earned retirement in her beloved county Cork.’

Danaher McGrath Trust Scholarship

Young people from Athea, Abbeyfeale, Mountcollins, Tournafulla and Templeglantine are invited to apply for a range of scholarships from a minimum of €2,000 to a maximum of €5,000 that are open to full time college students. The signs on the approach roads to Abbeyfeale seem to have done the trick with large crowds attending our indoor Bingo at the Glórach, every Monday night starting at 8 pm.

Christmas Lights

The Abbeyfeale Christmas Lights committee say ‘In our town, we believe in Christmas. With this in mind, we started 5 years ago to provide new lighting. Every year we work very hard with volunteers to fundraise so that we can add to our stock. We need to raise a lot of money to finish our task ‘ Log onto I donate and you can enter a raffle for two Garth Brooks tickets for his concert in September with all monies going to the Abbeyfeale Christmas Lights committee www.idonate.ie/AbbeyfealeChristmasLights.

ARA Na Feile Summer Outing

Twenty seven members of Abbeyfeale’s Active Retirement group set off on a beautiful day last Wednesday for Clonmacnoise and then made their way by cruiser into Athlone where they had a tour booked in Athlone Castle. It was a great day out in good company and all thanks to the organisational skills of a number of the members. Roll on September when the group meetings resume.

A call out for summer clothes

Ukrainian children boys & girls 4 to 10 years. T shirts, shorts, pants, dresses, shoes, runners, sandals etc. Clothes in good condition that your children have grown out of. These can be dropped out to the Ardagh Community Centre anytime between 8. 30am - 4p.m.Monday to Saturday. They are still looking for bikes for adults and children so that they could use the Greenway.

We all love Annascaul, and it’s time to freshen the village up with a bit of weeding, tidying and general cleansing. Why not come along for one hour only every Tuesday evening at 7pm - 8pm. Meet at the front of the Community Care Centre at 7pm sharp.

Annascaul Cafe are doing another open mic and music session on Sundays . Open to all levels and abilities. Come and watch or come and play / recite. This is a community event.

Parish Masses

You are welcome to attend Mass again. It is no longer be necessary to wear facemasks at Mass. However, people are welcome to continue to do so.

The following measures will remain in place: (1) Communion can only be received in the hand for the moment. (2) Hand sanitisation is advised. (3) You can place your offering for the offertory collection in the building fund boxes at the back of the churches. Your cooperation is much appreciated.

Parishioners are encouraged to attend Mass in a nearby Church if there is no Mass in their nearest Church. Mass Cards are available from the Parish Office 066 9157103.

St Brendan’s Hurling Club annual Golf Classic fundraiser takes place over two days of the August Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday July 30th and Bank Holiday Monday August 1st at Ballyheigue Golf Club. €100 per team of 4, 4-Ball Am-Am. Ardfert Historical Society

Ardfert Historical Society committee offer our condolences to our members Sheila and Phil Healy, Brandonwell and their family on the recent death of Sheila’s brother Canon Moss O’Connell, Diocese of Salford, England and formerly of Lisereen, Abbeydorney. Rest In Peace Canon Moss.

We also pay tribute to a proud Ardfert man Tom O’Riordan, Tubrid Cross, who died last Monday. Tom who was an Olympic athlete and an accomplished journalist was always very proud of his home village and we offer our condolences to his family in Dublin and to all his brothers and sisters and their families in Ardfert, Waterford, USA and Australia. May Tom Rest In Peace.

A reminder that our Ardfert Village guided walk takes place this Thursday 30th June at 8pm, beginning at Ardfert Church. All welcome to this free event which will last about one hour.
