Xposé award is a 'Don' deal
Ballyheigue native and now New York-based fashion designer, Don O'Neill, says he was honoured and shocked to be recognised with a Special Achievement award in Dublin last week.
O'Neill, whose designs have graced the shoulders of stars such as Oprah, Catríona Perry and Khloe and Kendall Jenner, received the Special Achievement award for 'Industry Innovator' at the inaugural Xposé Benefit Awards last Wednesday.
The award honoured Don's outstanding contribution to Irish fashion on a global stage. "Glenda Gilson was talking and, all of a sudden, I noticed that everything she was saying could relate to me and my story. Before I knew it, the TV camera crew had swooped down on our table. Pascal [Don's partner] is yelling, my picture is up on the big screen and the whole room had erupted into applause," said Don.
"It was the most magical and extraordinary night; receiving this award is huge. It's pretty much a Lifetime Achievment Award. The awards were on Wednesday in Dublin and I was back at my desk in NYC on Friday at 3. It's all just been a bit of a blur," he added.
The busy week does not stop just yet for Don as he prepares for the start of the famous New York Fashion Week, starting tomorrow, Thursday, February 8.
