A STATUE commemorating the original Rose of Tralee Mary O'Connor who was immortalised in the famous ballad by William Pembroke Mulchinock, will be officially unveiled in the Town Park next Monday.
The life size bronze statue, commissioned by Tralee Town Council and sculpted by renowned Irish sculptor Jeanne Rynhart, will be unveiled by Mayor of Tralee Terry O'Brien at a ceremony in Tralee Town Park at 9.45 on Monday morning.
Depicting Mary O'Connor and William Pembroke Mulchinock the statue will have pride of place in the park's famous Rose Garden. The figures were modelled in the Rynhart Gallery in Ballylickey, county Cork and cast at the Connolly Foundry in Kilbaha, county Clare.
Following the unveiling ceremony a civic reception for the fifty Roses taking part in this year's competition to mark the festivals fiftieth anniversary will be held at Siamsa Tire.
