Tarbert set for €4.2m housing scheme

Tarbert is in line for a major new housing scheme set to home up to 20 families on waiting lists in the area.

Kerry County Council confirmed to The Kerryman on Tuesday that the Department has given its approval for the construction of the 20 social houses in the Woodview Place estate in the North Kerry town.

The 20-house development will consist of four three-bed, two-storey homes; four two-bed two storeys; two two-bed single storey homes and eight one-bedroomed 'duplex' apartments.

It's regarded as one of the most significant housing announcements for the Listowel Municipal District in some time and was widely welcomed this week.

First to welcome the decision was new Fine Gael County Councillor, Ballylongford's Michael Foley. Cllr Foley said: "I am delighted to have received confirmation that Kerry County Council has been granted stage 1 budget approval of €4,240,929 under the Local Authority Housing Construction Programme under Rebuilding Ireland to construction 20 Social Houses." He described it as a huge 'boost' for the area.
