A second man man has been arrested by gardaí investigating a fatal assault of a man in his 50s in Tralee on Sunday evening.

The man died from wounds he suffered during an incident at the Abbeycourt apartment complex in the town centre. Gardaí and ambulance personnel arrived to the scene shortly after 7pm on Sunday evening to find a man with serious injuries as the result of what The Kerryman understands was a stab wound.

He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, with the scene preserved by gardaí pending the arrival of the state pathologist and other garda forensic investigators on Monday morning.

One man  – in his 50s – was arrested in connection with the incident on Sunday evening and was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Tralee Garda Station. He remains in custody there.

Gardaí meanwhile said they arrested a  second man, aged in his 30s, later in connection with the incident and he is currently detained at Killarney Garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. The second man was arrested as a result of ‘investigations’ gardaí stated.

A post-mortem is to be conducted today, with an incident room set-up at Tralee Garda Station where an initial case conference has been held by investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was in the Abbey Court Apartments and Denny Lane/Street areas between 6.30pm and 7pm on Sunday evening to contact them at Tralee Garda Station on (066) 710 2300 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
