As if the views from on high in Ballybunion couldn't get any better!

But the far-seeing members of the resort's Tidy Towns group finally realised a long-held ambition this week - to secure a dedicated viewing platform complete with telescope.

Chairperson of the Ballybunion Tidy Towns Noel Nash said the group was delighted to unveil the new - and free - amenity in what is already enhancing the resort town experience for both visitors and locals.

Set on a granite plinth overlooking the Ladies' Beach, the new telescope delivers an incredibly powerful zoom view capable of showing everywhere from Kerry Head to the Clare coast in unimaginable detail.

"We've been working towards securing a telescopic viewing area for Ballybunion for sometime now so we're thrilled to finally unveil it over the Ladies' Beach now and hope everyone gets to enjoy it.

"It is after all free and you can see right over to Kerry Head and right across to Clare with it," Noel explained. With the Wild Atlantic Way bringing ever more visitors to Kerry, it's a vital piece of kit of the kind expected now of all beauty spots.
