Prayers for critically injured cyclist

Fergus Dennehy

The Waterville community will come together this Thursday night when they will hold a community Mass to show their support for critically injured cyclist Michael Curran.

The Mass is being organised by Michael's former football club, Waterville GAA, and it will take place at 8pm on Thursday night in St Finian's Church. Organisers of the Mass are encouraging as many members of the local community as possible to come out and show solidarity and support for the Curran family.

Michael is currently fighting for his life in hospital in France after he was involved in a road traffic accident. It is understood that he has been in an induced coma for the last few days. Michael had been on a 14,000km round-the-world cycling trip with his girlfriend Sara O'Shea from Keel - a story that featured in The Kerryman only last year.

Family members have since flown out to France to be at his bedside. Michael's family have requested privacy at this difficult time. The Department of Foreign Affairs have confirmed that they are currently providing consular assistance to the Curran family in France.
