Kerry County Council is to write to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine requesting their attendance at a meeting early in the New Year to discuss the possibility of a pier for Cromane.

Cllr Michael Cahill called on Kerry County Council to arrange and confirm a date for a meeting of all stakeholders as a matter of priority in regards to the development of a landing facility at Cromane at the recent Kenmare Municipal District meeting: "There are major health and safety issues in Cromane and the provision of a landing facility in is now a top priority.

"The fishing industry in Cromane is the single biggest employer in the region, and the provision of a pier/landing facility is central to the Cromane Socio Economic Plan," he added.  The Department has previously stated it would not progress such a development, but the possibility is now to be explored in the New Year with all the stakeholders.
