'Lucky to survive' driver escapes limo fire
Dramatic video and photographs have emerged of the aftermath of a fire that erupted in the engine of a stretch limousine in Tarbert last Thursday (21st).
The driver was lucky to have escaped with his life as the fire broke out in the engine block of the limo as it was returning from a wedding in Causeway on the day.
The incident happened outside The Lanterns Hotel on the Glin Road beyond the town of Tarbert - just inside the Co Limerick border.
It's understood the driver pulled into the front of the hotel after smelling burning and that the fire suddenly raged, engulfing the entire engine block moments after he got to safety.
The fire rapidly escalated, burning through the front seats into the rear, ultimately gutting the interior of the limo.
As the incident occurred in Co Limerick the Foynes Fire Service was tasked with the response, with two tenders rushing to the scene where fire fighters quickly brought the blaze under control.
One emergency worker who witnessed the scene said the driver was lucky to escape with their life from the sudden blaze.
The Limerick Fire Service is now investigating what exactly caused the fire. It is understood the limo is owned by a Limerick-based firm.
