Listowel man hospitalised after brutal hurley attack
A Listowel man was hospitalised following a vicious attack in the town last Tuesday night in which he was beaten by at least one assailant wielding a hurley.
The assault happened at around 11pm on Tuesday night of last week, July 30, at an apartment in the Ballygologue Road area, not far from the town centre.
The man, in his early 30s, sustained injuries to his face and other parts of his body.
He was rushed to University Hospital Kerry, where he was treated for his injuries, receiving extensive stitches on his face.
Gardaí in Listowel investigating the vicious attack say they are now following a certain line of enquiry and have issued an appeal for witnesses, or anyone who might have noticed anything unusual in the area, to come forward and help the investigation.
The victim was treated overnight for his injuries at the hospital and returned home the following day.
He is expected to make a full recovery.
"This was a very serious assault, resulting in significant injuries to the victim," a senior garda informed The Kerryman.
"We are now appealing for anyone with information pertinent to the investigation to come forward and assist us by contacting us in confidence at Listowel Garda Station."
Gardaí said they are looking at a 'certain' course in the investigation. "We are following a certain line of enquiry in the investigation," they added.
