The future is brighter still for Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre after Brendan Griffin officially opened a new strength-and-conditioning area in the centre last week.

The Minister of State for Transport, Tourism and Sport said that he was very happy at the funding made available under the Sports Capital Grant towards the upgrade. "It is great to see the facility so busy this morning with groups such as the Kerry ladies football team and badminton teams using the facility," he said.

"There is huge social and community benefit to facilities such as these," Minister Griffin added on the day. Cathaoirleach of Killarney Municipal District Cllr John Sheahan said that the renovations are vital for the survival and growth of local swimming, basketball and badminton clubs, to name but a few. As part of the upgrade, the area receive upgrades in flooring and equipment.

Cllr Donal Grady added that the new centre will  be perfect for providing opportunities for those who may need rehabilitation, along with providing modern equipment for people to continue with their own personal journey to physical and mental well-being.
