Kerry to tender for lucrative Irish Dancing championships

A committee representing Irish dancing interests here is to tender for the World Irish Dancing Championships, which could be worth up to €15 million for the Kerry economy.

Members of The World Irish Dancing Championships Bid Liaison Committee met with An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha in Killarney, where details were revealed of the tender process for Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne, the World Irish Dancing Championships for 2019 - 2021.

The Bid Liaison Committee was formed earlier this year to spearhead a united approach on behalf of the entire county to convince An Coimisiún, the governing body of Irish Dancing worldwide, to choose Killarney to host Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne in future years.

It is made up of representatives from Kerry County Council, Tralee Chamber Alliance, Dingle Business Chamber, Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce, Kerry Convention Bureau, Fáilte Ireland, Killarney Convention Centre, Kerry Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation, Kerry Airport, Kenmare Marketing Group and others.

Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce said competition will be fierce and Kerry will need a world class bid to be among the finalists.
