Kerry businessman on shortlist for key award
ONE of Kerry's leading businessmen has been shortlisted for the prestigious Ernst And Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for 2011.
Denis McCarthy, the Managing Director of Killorglin-based Annadale Technologies, is one of a record 140 nominees for this year's awards.
Established in 2004, Annadale Technologies specialises in the design and development of high-performance online transaction processing software and self-service applications for the financial services industry.
The firm reported a turnover of almost €1.2 million last year, and currently employs 15 people at its Killorglin head office.
This week, a delighted Denis McCarthy paid tribute to his employees. "What we have is our people, and our ability to produce good software is down to the abilities of the people that you have," he said.
According to Mr McCarthy the information technology sector can readily be developed and grown in Kerry to compensate for the county's lack of a large industrial or manufacturing base.
"There are great opportunities in IT, it is one of those jobs you can do anywhere," he said.
All successful companies keep one eye on the future and Annadale Technologies is no exception. However, as Mr McCarthy explained, his company will continue to focus on producing high quality software products.
"We need to continue to produce high quality software, that's the main thing. If we can do that then we are likely to grow," he said. "Another important thing is making sure that the company is a good place for people to work. Without our people we are nothing."
Ernst and Young's Frank O'Keeffe said: "The record number of nominations received this year is a testament to the resilience and ambition of exceptional business leaders, such as Denis McCarthy and his team at Annadale Technologies."
