Italian Motorcyclist killed in fatal crash at Cahersiveen in Kerry

The fatal road crash, just a short distance outside Cahersiveen town on Monday night, has claimed the live of an Italian tourist, in the latest tragedy on Kerry roads.

A 37- year old  male motorcyclist was fatally injured following a collision between a car and a motorcyclist around 4.45pm. The female car driver, (early 50s) and sole occupant of the car was uninjured and did not require medical attention.

The accident occurred in the town land of Strands End, Cahersiveen. Investigations are continuing into the fatality. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination of the scene on Monday night and the main tourist N70 tourist route was closed overnight to allow gardaí to being their inquiries. 

Local councillor, Norma Moriarty (FF) said that it is tragic news that the life of a tourist has been claimed in Kerry.

"Anytime we learn of an Irish person dying abroad it has an impact and now we see it here,” she said. 

"The roads have never been busier so we must take care.” 

She offered her condolences to the family of the motorcyclist on behalf of the community. 

They are now appealing to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who were travelling in the area and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
