Irish basketball squads in Kerry

Ireland's U16 & U17 teams taste south Kerry hospitality

Ireland's top young ladies basketball players were in south Kerry for the weekend as part of their preparations for the upcoming European Championships.

The Irish U16 and U17 ladies teams took part in a four match series against Scotland with games held in Cahersiveen and Kenmare.

The teams all stayed in the Caherdaniel area with the Scots staying at Derrynane Hotel while the two Irish teams were hosted by Wave Crest Caravan Park, which is owned and run by the family of Ireland U16 team member Siofra O'Shea.

While much of the weekend was taken up by the action on the court the players and their coaching staff also enjoyed a barbecue at Wave Crest and a few hours basking in the sunshine on the beach at nearby O'Carroll's Cove.

While the results didn't go Ireland's way - the Scots won all four matches - the teams enjoyed a fantastic weekend and will have headed home with great memories of the Kingdom.
