After previously having Ronnie Whelan in their pub back in April, the Huddle Bar in Tralee is set to welcome another Irish footballing legend through its doors next month when it hosts the man who famously put the ball in the English net back in 1988, the one and only Ray Houghton.

The now 60-year-old Houghton will be speaking and  answering questions about his illustrious career – and posing for photos with fans as well of course – on the night of Sunday, October 9.

Houghton will no doubt have numerous anecdotes and behind-the-scenes tales to share from a career that saw him enjoy League title and FA Cup success with Liverpool before adding even more silverware to his collection with a League Cup with with Oxford United back in 1986.

As well as this, he enjoyed stints with with West Ham, Fulham, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Reading and Stevenage Borough before retiring in 2000.

On an international level, he will be remembered most fondly for his winner against England in Euro ‘88 as well as against the Italians at Giants Stadium during the 1994 World Cup.

Houghton will be speaking in the bar after the Arsenal vs Liverpool match so there’s sure to be a cracking atmosphere on the night.

Tickets for the evening will cost €20 and more details are available by calling into The Huddle Bar on Strand Street.
