Home of elderly man burgled as he lay on his deathbed in hospital

The house, in the Causeway area, was burgled sometime over the course of a two-day period leading up to the date on which the elderly male occupant passed away recently.

The incident led to widespread shock and outrage in the tight-knit community as news of the burglary on the home of the man, who lived alone, spread. He had been in hospital for a period of weeks by the time of the incident.

The Kerryman understands the matter was reported to gardaí when it was discovered that the home had been disturbed.

Gardaí are following a line of enquiry in their probe into the burglary.

Detectives have carried out door-to-door enquiries in the immediate vicinity of the house with a view to identifying any activity of interest to the investigation over the course of the two-day period.
