Gardaí probe alleged rape in Ballybunion

Gardai have arrested a man in relation to the alleged rape of a teenager in Ballybunion on Saturday, June 30.

A 19-year-old girl is alleged to have been raped at a private dwelling in the resort town in the early hours of Saturday, June 30, while holidaying there.

She was examined at the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit in Cork.

Gardaí sealed off the location while a technical examination was carried out by the forensic team.

A man in his 20s was arrested by gardaí on Friday on suspicion of rape and taken to Listowel Garda Station where he was detained under section four of the Criminal Justice Act for questioning.

He was later released without charge and a file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions on the matter.
