Eirgrid announce €70k community fund

Community groups in the Knockanure/Duagh area are being urged to make submissions for a slice of a new fund announced on Tuesday by EirGrid.

The national electricity grid operator launched the Knockanure Duagh Community Fund - worth €70,500 - on Tuesday in one of the final steps of a major infrastructural project in the area.

EirGrid recently completed a new electricity substation with overhead transmission line network in Kilmorna; installed to facilitate the increased power that's being generated from the growing number of windfarms in the region.

"The community fund recognises the importance of local communities who support our work. We are looking for applications from not-for-profit or voluntary groups with charitable aims," EirGrid's Derval O'Brien said.

Listowel District Cathaoirleach Cllr John Lucid said the fund would complement Council investment in the area, describing it as 'substantial' and urging groups to apply.
