Singer songwriter, Katie O'Connor from Raheny in Dublin has been crowned the winner of the sixth annual IMRO Christie Hennessy Song Competition.

18-year-old Katie was inspired to write the song 'Just too young' when she was 15 after discovering her five year old cousin had been diagnosed with cancer.

The live final took place on Saturday at The Rose Hotel, Tralee, with a special guest performance from much-loved singer songwriter John Spillane.

Ten finalists were selected from over 200 entries from across Ireland and beyond to perform their original song in front of a live audience and panel of expert judges.

As the winner, Katie was presented with a cheque for €1,000, courtesy of Tralee Credit Union.

The competition brought down the curtain on a two day celebration of Hennessy's life and work.

Hundreds of music fans attended the festival which also involved a performance by the Tralee Troubadour Club on Friday night and the dedication of a plaque in the late musician's honour near his statue in Tralee Town Square on Saturday.
