Aussies in court over Killarney assault

Two Australian men have appeared before Tralee District Court following an assault in Killarney town on Friday night/Saturday morning.

Jack Richardson of 8 Mullin Street, Ormeau Hills, Brisbane, Queensland, was charged with assault causing harm on December 29, 2018.

Liam Coughlan of 7, 6704, Anchorage Close, Darwin, was charged with the obstruction of a peace officer on the same date. 

Evidence was given at a special sitting of Tralee District Court on New Year's Eve. Both men are 22 years of age. 

The charges relate to an incident on High Street in Killarney which was attended by Gardaí, during which an Irishman was assaulted. It is understood he suffered some injuries. Gardaí intervened, and during the course of the incident a second male became involved and he was charged with the obstruction of a peace officer. 

Mr Richardson is to pay €2,000 to the injured party for the assault while Mr Coughlan is to pay €1,000 for his part in the Christmas incident. Both men are to return to Australia on their scheduled flight date.
