Arts week at Killorglin school

THE pupils of the Intermediate School Killorglin were in touch with their artistic side recently as the school hosted a community arts week.

Organised by Nikki Roberts under the umbrella of KFest and assisted by teachers at the school, the week long series of events included a mix of dance, film, music and art therapy.

"We are trying to further capture the children's imagination and maximise their exposure to the arts, with a view to opening up their horizons for future careers," Nikki says.

The week included a workshop by Support Dance Artist in Residence at Kerry County Council Maria Svensson, a film workshop by director Charlie O'Brien, music therapy by Maria Ward and art therapy by Nikki Roberts.

And on Friday afternoon the school's now traditional lunchtime performance in the school well included a free form dance routine by Maria Svensson, accompanied with music by Mike Dowd.

"The aim is to expose children to different disciplines and it's something we would like to build on year on year," Nikki continues.

"With the backing of KFest we want to roll it out to other schools in the Parish and to satellite schools," the community arts week director adds.
