You'd be hard pressed to find a bitter - sorry, I mean better - photo in this year's Texaco Children's Art Competition than that of St Brendan's College Killarney student, Jonathan O'Keeffe.

Competition adjudicator Eoin Butler was clearly a fan of the talented 17-year-old student's piece. Left, he is pictured holding it aloft last week.

The piece is entitled 'Bitter Phil', and it is just one of hundreds of entries that have been submitted as part of the 65th year of the national art competition. Kerry, as always, will be well represented, with schools from around the county taking part.

Over 670 students from the county are amongst those from all parts of Ireland who are taking part in the competition, the results of which will be announced at a media reception that will take place in the Morrison Hotel, Dublin 1, on April 16.

The closing date to submit artwork for this year's competition has now passed, and prizes will be presented at a ceremony in May.
