The Palliative Care Unit is set to be the main beneficiary of the annual Tony O'Donoghue walk which takes place this weekend.

Tony, who was a well known and well respected stalwart of the St Pat's GAA club in the area passed away in September 2014; his family have sought to keep his memory alive over the years with the walk.

Andrea O'Donoghue is Tony's daughter and is one of the main organisers behind the walk which has successfully raised thousands of euro for the Care Unit over the last number of years.

Last years event was slightly marred by the onset of poor weather but that did not stop over 40 people braving the elements in memory of Tony and his great work with the club.

The 5k walk is being billed as one which all the family can enjoy with Andrea encouraging as many people as possible to come out and enjoy the day.

The route will see walkers leaving the car park at the Blennerville Windmill, back to the canal, towards the lock gates in y the 'white wall' to Lohercannon and then back to the windmill through Hare Street.

The festivities do not end there however, with music and refreshments planned in the Skelper Quane's bar afterwards. All those who take part in the walk on the day will also be entered into a draw to win a signed Kerry jersey.

This years walk will take place at 5pm from the Blennerville windmill car park; registration is available on the day. Here's hoping the fine weather holds up for Saturday.
