St John's celebrates Lee Strand win

The pupils of St John's Parochial School had an unusual visitor ahead of their school holidays when they were paid a visit by a giant cartoon milk carton.

The character, whom many in town will be familiar with, is of course Lee Strand's well known mascot 'Mighty Mikey Milk' who has been promoting them for years now.

Mikey and representatives of Lee Strand were at the school recently to present a cheque for €500 which the school won in Lee Strand's long running Cash 4 Schools' draw.

A delighted St John's Principal Patricia Fitzell thanked Lee Strand for the money and said how the school planned to use it.

"We are delighted to win €500 in the Lee Strand Cash 4 Schools. Thank you very much for this great opportunity," she said.

"The money will be used to provide games to promote social and oral language skills. We would also like to restock our Aistear toys and purchase SESE resources," said Ms Fitzell.

She also thanked those who got the school involved in the draw in the first place.

"A big thank you to Niamh Dunne for entering into the draw on our behalf. We would also like to thank Betty Groves and the families of the school who consistently collect the mascots on our behalf," she said.

To enter the draw schools need only collect ten 'Mighty Mikey Milk' mascots from Lee Strand 1 Litre and pint cartons or 2 Litre plastic bottles and then send them to Lee Strand. Last year through the draw Lee Strand presented a total of €2,000 to schools in Kerry.
