Night of celebration

THE Kerins O'Rahilly's faithful celebrated what has been a successful year for the club with their annual social at the Ballyroe Hotel.

Close to 300 of the club's players, management and loyal long time supporters packed the hotel for the night which saw the club's triple title winning senior team and under 21s club champions honoured for their efforts last season.

Fr Bernard Healy opened proceedings with a blessing of the food and the awards and then it was straight into the medal presentations.

The U21s were first to receive their U21 Club Championship medals from club President Micheál Kerins and Chairman Frank O'Connor.

After dinner it was the turn of the senior players who received their Town Championship, Town League and County League Division 1 medals from Seán Walsh and Frank O'Connor.

As is tradition at Kerins O'Rahilly's a number of individual awards were also presented. The Most Improved Player went to Mitchell Donnelly with the sought after Young Player of the Year award going to Martin Tierney.

The contenders for Player of the Year were Micheál Quirke, Gary Kissane and Barry John Keane with Gary Kissane named as winner and accepting the award to a standing ovation from the crowd.

A special presentation was made to the club's former registrar, Peter Ronan, for outstanding service to the club with the award accepted on his behalf by his son Shane.

Of course the night wasn't all about sport and there were also prizes for the event's most stylish guests.

The best dressed lady competition was won by Rosie McGrath while the gent's title went to Ross O'Callaghan.
