The celebration of an important milestone in the history of The Meadowlands Hotel has resulted in a significant boost for the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

The Ó Mathúna family recently celebrated their 20th year in business  there with an anniversary festival weekend of sports-themed events, all in aid of Kerry Hospice.

Thanks to the hotel's efforts - and indeed the help, support and generosity of the community and business partners in Tralee and beyond - they raised €22,820 for Kerry Hospice.

As a result, Kerry Hospice Foundation is now able to buy Palliative Care equipment, aids and appliances, provide ongoing training for staff and maintain their two buildings which offers care and support to patients and their families, free of charge.

The Kerry Hospice Foundation also helps patients and their families cope with the problems associated with life-threatening illness.

"We would like to say mile buiochas to Peigí and Paddy Ó Mathúna for their extremely generous fundraising efforts in aid of the hospice," said Mairead Fernane, Kerry Hospice Treasurer.

"Fundraising is always a challenge, even for worthy causes such as ours, so this cheque takes an amount of pressure off us for the current year and will help us maintain services that are so badly needed," Mairead added. Paddy Ó Mathúna said he is delighted with the efforts of everyone to bring the festival to life.

"We'd like to thank the Tralee public for helping to raise this much money for Kerry Hospice Foundation who provide fantastic support to Palliative care patients in Tralee and the wider county," Paddy said.
