Loughill/Ballyhahill says hello to valued new amenity

What a perfect day Sunday was in Abha Bhán Parish Park.

A people's park in the Loughill/Ballyhahill area has long been an ambition locally; such a campaign has been going on for well over three years and gathered steam after Mary McNamara donated a generous amount of land in the locality.

Today, it is home to a huge range of attractions s including a playground, sensory area, walk area, fairy garden, story-telling area, and astro-turf facilities.

Not far off €400,000 went into the project - between fund-raising, and support from the likes of the government; Limerick City and County Council; and JP McManus - and it had its official opening on Sunday.

The campaign was spearheaded by Abha Bhán Parish Park Ltd, and member Deirdre Delee praised the committee; Declan Hallett, whom she described as the driving force; and all who supported the project.

"We had a great day, with Minister Patrick O'Donovan and Councillor Stephen Keary cutting the ribbon," she said.

"We also had Tom Neville TD; Cllrs Adam Teskey, Emmett O'Brien, Kevin Sheahan and  John Sheahan; Fr Austin McNamara and, of course, Liam McCarthy!

"It was a lovely day with lots of family fun, such as ice creams, face-painting, balloons, lots of kids' entertainment. And we were blessed with the weather, thankfully!"
