Fair City star opens Market Street Spar shop
ONE of Irish TV's best-known grocers was in town on Friday to usher in a new chapter in the life of Market Street's Spar supermarket.
Fair City's Christy Phelan, aka actor Tom Hopkins, officiated at the opening of the new-look Spar on Friday in a development that is set to create more jobs for town.
Now owned by Ballylongford native and qualified accountant Sean Heaphy, the supermarket has just had a stunning makeover with a new café, bakery counter and deli counter among the many changes.
Sean - who already employs over 100 people at three Spar supermarkets around the country through his Listowel-based company H2 - said that the response from the public was even better than expected.
"We're delighted with the new-look Spar and confident that the modernisation will see it make a big impact in the local market," he told The Kerryman. Among Sean's Spar outlets is Bridge Street's award-winning Spar Express and Filling Station - a business that has proved very successful since its opening in recent years.
As the newly-tweaked business beds down Sean is hoping to create even more badly-needed employment for Listowel.
