Emmets pays tribute to its much-loved groundsman

Listowel Community News

From the Town Park to the racecourse and the Emmets' grounds, Listowel sure is a town spoiled for great green areas - a fact that made no little contribution to last week's amazing Tidy Towns win.

And one of the people behind those immaculate surfaces was this week honoured by the Listowel Emmets for his services over many years to the Frank Sheehy Park.

Emmets' groundsman Martin Scanlon was the focus of a big, warm gathering in the famous club at their recent family fun day. Close friend and Emmets stalwart Tadhg Moriarty laid it out straight as he paid tribute to Martin for his unstintingly high standards and the 'tight ship' he ran when it came to the club. Presenting Martin with a special award, Tadhg and PRO Norah Browne also made him an honorary life member as well as co-president of the club. The Emmets would like to wish Martin and his family the very best on his well-deserved retirement.
