The Kerry Association London has changed the process for selecting its annual Kerry Person of the Year.

Traditionally members of the association and the general public were invited to nominate the person who they felt was most deserving to the annual award. The person with the most votes would then be named as the recipient of the prestigious Denis Reidy Memorial Shield.

This year the association has appointed a sub-committee to find the best person that can represent the most-active county association in London in 2014 and they have already begun the search to find Paddy Griffin's successor.

Mr Griffin, from Neasden in North West London and Lispole is West Kerry was nominated last year in light of his work within GAA circles in the British capital over the last 40 years. He joined well-known business men like Dan Sullivan, Christy Kissane and Patsy Byrne, as well as other GAA stalwarts like Tom Roche and Noel O'Sullivan as recipients of the award.

Association chairman and former winner Dan Sullivan said: "Rather than wait for suitable candidates to come to us or be nominated by their family and friends we are going to proactively look for the most suitable person ourselves. We still invite nominations from the general public , both in London and at home in Kerry, but the big difference this year is that it won't , necessarily , be the person with the most amount of votes."

The sub-committee has set a deadline of June 29 for receipt of nominations and at least two members of the association will then contact the nominee and discuss their plans for the year ahead before reaching a decision on the winner. The London Kerry Person of the Year will be announced in early September and they will be presented with their award the annual Kerry dinner dance at the Crown Moran Hotel in late October (date to be confirmed).

The association holds regular meetings at The Kingdom Bar and new members are always welcome. Enquires about membership or any of the association's events can be directed towards secretary Tara Cronin on +44 7939 017022 or any committee member.
